A question that is often asked by many that own a laptop or netbook is if there is a way to connect there device to a TV. Thankfully there is a way to connect any laptop or computer to your TV providing you have the right cables and connectors. In this article I will cover connecting your laptop to your TV.
First things first you will need to have a cable that can transmit video between the two devices. By purchasing the right cable you will in effect be able to use your television as the viewing area of you laptop whether it be watching a DVD on your laptop or using windows or Linux generally. Many people find that this way of connection is convenient considering the scale they would be able to out put on there main television. Great for those that are lucky enough to have access to a +42 inch LCD or plasma set!

There are many types of laptop to TV cables available on the market that provide various degrees of quality and functionality. First you would need to determine what output connections are available on your laptop then go on to find what compatible inputs are available on your television. Many new laptops and LCD televisions come equipped with HDMI input and output, this allows for the best quality in sound and video transmission while older laptops and televisions come equipped with s-video and VGA connectors.
VGA & S-video connections.
These 2 forms of connections are common in older laptop models. S video allows for sound and picture to be transmitted to a compatible s-video television. The downside to this type of connection is that it can only display low resolution output as well as analogue sound. VGA on the other hand can transmit the full potential of your laptops resolution, although you will need a TV with a VGA input. The only televisions that come equipped with VGA inputs are mostly LCD or plasma units as well as some projector models.
HDMI Connection
HDMI connection has become readily available on newer laptop models and LCD televisions. This is the best form of connection for integrating both devices, providing you with the best sound and picture quality available. Connecting via this method is also very simple, it is just a case of connecting both devices to each other and your television should automatically detect the source for output.
If you find you have neither of the connections or have a conflict in compatibility then you could always consider purchasing a laptop to TV converter. These small devices convert signals from your laptop to the appropriate television, although quality will be effected greatly. The great thing about the available connection methods is they are affordable and many PC hardware stores stock the cables necessary to connect both mediums.
